My Latest Project – Sashiko Embroidery

Inspired by Susan Briscoe’s Book ‘The Ultimate Sashiko Sourcebook’, I have started making the Kinchaku Bag which is a little drawstring bag.  In Japan they are used as kimono accessories and are popular items for decorating with sashiko.  It will be a handy bag to keep my sashiko bits and pieces in.

One side I have embroidered the nowaki pattern and the other I have used the shippou seven treasures pattern.  The pattern was marked on the fabric first and then embroidered.  I discovered that chalk markings wear off as you stitch so used the Sew Easy Water Soluble Pencil which lasts longer but can be removed with a touch of water.

I enjoyed the embroidery and found it relaxing.  The challenge is to keep stitching around the pattern without cutting the thread in too many places.
